Praying Throughout the Day

The Daily Offices

For Episcopalians and other Christians, the Daily Offices tie together the parts of our days.  In the Daily Offices, we turn to God at regular times, stopping what we are doing and allowing our hearts and minds to turn back to the God who created and sustains us.

All of the Daily Offices include psalms, canticles, and other scripture passages, individual prayers, and silence.  The most commonly prayed Offices are Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer.  Our brief Noon Office (which requires only about five minutes) turns our hearts and minds back to the God in the middle of whatever chaos our day has showered upon us, reminding us that our activitis are one in the name of the God who gives us life and breath and hope. The Office of Compline, at the close of each day, provides an opportunity to quiet our hearts before turning to rest.
